  • How I approach having a Spinal Cord Injury

6 years after my spinal cord injury My whole life changed on 21/08/2013. It doesn’t matter that I’m alive now. My previous life died in my accident. After 6 years of waiting and fighting without seeing results or hope, I’ll never be the same. The ones I thought would never let me down left and never came back. The ones I never thought would worry about me or what happened are the ones that surprised me with their bravery and support. I'm not going to cheat you, after so many blows and disappointments. How do you want me to blindly trust that someone is going to finally help me? If after 6 years of struggle, I am still fighting alone in each battle. I go for you: 28/05/2019 knowing that the battle won’t finish after you pass because this is a daily and life long fight.

  • The Final Countdown

My Progress Without sleep, anxiety raised up. Without parties, events or going to have a drink when you need the support of people, one another, the burden increased. Without visiting the stadium, I encouraged the team from the computer. Without forces, with all the impotence facing the recovering process. I am thankful for the time and patience, laying in bed, uncomfortable, the scar finally closed up. But the biggest one is still open, the daily fight. Thanks to everyone that has been there far or close, physically or not, sometimes just a detail can give you hope and forces to keep going. C’EST FINI!

  • Celebrating my birthday with a Spinal Cord Injury

Turning 27 with a Spinal Cord Injury I (@ismaeelcapa_mlg) know all my time is spent in my wheelchair because of my SCI, but this year I finally blew out the candles of my birthday cake. I did it standing Forest Gump style. It’s something a bit unusual, we are used to seeing people do this seated. Today I’m celebrating that I never give up, that my life has always been full of gaps and I always jumped them. I still fight them but move around them. Sometimes I have to do it alone and sometimes I have the support of others. It's beautiful to read messages, see pictures and the reality of this. My family never fails me. Thank you very much to everyone. Sometimes life gives you other chances.

  • How I recover after my Spinal Cord Injury

Recovering after my Spinal Cord Injury Some people want to see me alone, far from the others just because I don't stop saying the truth and complaining when I have to. Well, I have to rest by medical advertising and the only treatment is to lie and respond, maybe it’s better not to call him, he’ll be better and he’ll go out… There is a very close number of you that take the time to come and visit me. And who asked how it’s going? The same as always, the ones who never let me down, the others just moved away and keep a distance. You just lie but remember that I was there in good times and bad times. No matter my physical or mental state, at home recovering, at the hospital or wherever I have to go to finish with this cicatrizing process. You won’t let me down once again because I’m tired to fight alone for you.

  • CHARGE for you, CHARGE for me

Yes, I am disabled. I’m Rebecca Cliffe, 25 and live such a great life. I have a boyfriend who loves me, family and friends who do nothing but love and support me. I travel the world, I go to the best restaurants, I work in one of the top salons in London ( that my mum owns with my step-dad ). I’m so lucky. Why am I writing about this? Well, I’m disabled! I have CHARGE syndrome. CHARGE syndrome is an acronym for many different medical conditions: coloboma, heart defects, atresia of the chonea, retardation of growth, genital/ urinary abnormalities and ear abnormalities and deafness. I have all these to a certain extent. I wear a BAHA hearing aid as I have conductive hearing loss on my right side, left side I am profoundly deaf. I started to write a blog as I want to show people that being disabled does not mean your life is limited or can’t be good. Life is what you make it. I didn’t learn about CHARGE syndrome for a long time. I never classified myself as disabled until last year. I would actually avoid it. I used to forget to tell people I was deaf, leave my hearing aid batteries at home on purpose because I didn’t want to face up to it. 3 years ago, I found Jesus Christ. By going to church, reading his word and singing the songs I started to accept who I was. Yes, I am disabled and so what! If you don’t like it, well your loss. I’ve noticed that people get funny about the word disabled and I’m trying to get that word to become positive. I’m trying to raise awareness for not only CHARGE syndrome, but also try to show people that people with disabilities are able to do things!

  • How I Became A Partial Hand Amputee

I Am Missing My Index & Middle Fingers My name is Antonio Robles (@eightfingerss). I am currently 22 years old residing in Los Angeles, California. I'm a partial hand amputee missing my index and middle finger because in July 2018 I had an accident when I attempted to light up a firework. The firework instantly blew up causing trauma to my hand. nothing is impossible The reason I’m here is to show other people in this world that nothing is impossible! Anything is possible if you put your mindset to it! I have been a gamer my whole life, so I told myself this accident won't stop me. I did get impatient because it was so difficult for me to play compared to how I used to play. As time passes by, I improve! You can check me out: https://twitch.tv/eightfingerss. Thank you 🙏🏻

  • That's How We Roll - Wheelchair Travel Documentary Series

Sisters, Travelers, Filmmakers We're Jenny and Laura, two sisters making a documentary series about our travels with a wheelchair. With a passion for adventure and creativity, we've set out to create a series of films that give a first-hand look at the ups and downs of traveling with a disability. It's never an easy ride, but in our experience, seeing the world is always worth the challenges! Hawaii, New York, and Beyond So far we've self-produced two full-length episodes. The first took us to the beautiful beaches of Hawaii, and the second to the world-famous city streets of New York. Each destination presented its own unique obstacles, eye-openers, and unforgettable experiences. We caught every moment on camera, from the top of the Manhattan skyline to a surfboard on the Pacific ocean. With a third episode in production, we are thrilled to be sharing our experiences in some of the most traveled places on earth, and shining a little light on what it's like to visit these places with a disability.
