10 tips for success
1- Assume competence. Treat everyone with the respect and dignity that they deserve.
2- Create a relationship built on trust and respect.
3- There is always a trigger behind a behavior.
4- Make it fun. Exercise should be something that they look forward to, not something that they dread.
5- Talk through the workout before starting. Create a visual list of the exercises that you will be doing.
6- Give them ownership of their program. Let them help decide which exercises to do each session.
7- Use positive reinforcement and focus on building self-esteem and self-confidence.
8- Be ready to explain yourself in a variety of ways. Each client sees the world in a different way and it is your job to figure out the best way to communicate so that they understand the instructions.
9- Have a sense of humor and thick skin. If you forgot to put deodorant on in the morning, they will remind you.
10- Always end on a positive note. They should always leave wanting to come back!
