All About Me- A different outlook on "disability"

It's all in the Mind

I want to share my own story with you in hopes to change your life by giving you a different outlook on your “disability.” When I was 4 years old I got into a car wreck that changed my life. I suffered a severe spinal cord injury, and the doctors thought that I wasn’t going to make it. I had a punctured lung, brain injury, and while in the hospital, I caught Pneumonia. I am a miracle just to be alive!

Like most though, I suffered a time of depression. I had it bad for several years, at least… that’s what I thought… my mindset slowly shifted over the past few years up to now. I am currently 18 years old and I have a dream of changing the world. I see so many people in wheelchairs or with some form of “disability” and it is just so sad to see them fall victim to what has happened. I don’t see a “disability” as a disability at all. In fact, I feel like it is something that makes you a better person. You must deal with so much more as someone with an injury.

This makes you stronger as a person in so many ways. When you are able to develop a sense of happiness as someone who has the burden of such a life changing incident, you are really able to do anything in life. You can use your injury to inspire people to do more in life. Use your “disability” to say “hey… look at me… I’m in a wheelchair and I still do choirs around the house and make time for the gym” or “hey man I’m missing a leg and I’m still enjoying life!” Show the world that no matter what happens, we as people can overcome anything and bounce back and change the world. It’s all about your mindset.

I am a parapaligic with a T-2 level injury. people always say how even though I am bound to a wheelchair, I am the most positive person they have ever met! That is exactly what I want to bring to this community! I want to show people that your outlook on life is what matters more that anything else. I hope I can motivate some of you to strive for positivity and also be the best version of yourself!
