DONT be your worst enemy

The Accident

It was October 18th 2007 I woke up like any other day but on this day I had a heavy thing on my mind. My girlfriend of the last year was pregnant. I was 18 years old and she was 16. I decided to take a ride out that morning in my uncle's Porsche, a car that I had no place driving in the first place. I had no idea that 10 mins from that very moment I would be fighting for my life.

Why Would this Happen to Me?

I was ejected from the car at a speed roughly 80-90 MPH after the vehicle struck a tree ... all I can remember was after it was all over I was gasping out for air begging god to save me, wishing I could tell my loved ones that I was sorry that I was going to lose my life lying in a ditch. I suffered a cervical spinal cord compression fracture on my posterior side of my cord c5 c6. I broke my left elbow, my sternum, my pelvis. I was impaled by a stick approximately 8 inches long, I layed there awake literally dying paralyzed from the neck down instantly. I remember trying to get up to push up off the ground but I couldn't breathe. I didn't even have enough to yell. I got to the hospital where I under went a 16 hour cervical fusion surgery. 2 hours post injury, and when I woke up they told me I'll never walk again. I'll never be the person I was before. I could barely move my arms or even open anything causing my fingers and I remember laying in the ICU just crying why why why why would this happen to me?

My Life Now

I'm 10 years into my injury now and let me just tell you a few things that several educated people told me I couldn't do. I can stand on my own two feet, I ambulate quite well, I refused to believe that my life was gonna be dictated on what someone told me how it was gonna be! I roll my life now I have shown everyone that attitude can be everything . Now I'm a competitive wheelchair racer, I'm 100% independent, I look past what everyone thinks cause I do know that your worst enemy is yourself, I did the impossible, I stopped thinking and started doing.
