Just Me Is Who I Want to Be: Singing, Dancing & Paralyzed

Being Paralyzed Does Not Stop Me From Living My Dreams

I was born 25 years ago. I had a heart operation at the age of 4 months which turned my whole life around. Too little oxygen to my spine let me paralyzed. I'm Charné Hugo, 25 years old from South Africa.

My disability never stopped me from reaching my full potential. I did wheelchair dancing which made me feel free, but had to stop after a back operation to rectify Scoliosis. My real passion is singing. I started singing at the age of 8 years and I'm still going strong. I'm currently singing with Rudi Claase- we are named Die Lieflinge (Our Darlings) which is an Afrikaans group in South-Africa. We have also became best friends! I love what I do!

Always remember you are able to do anything once you set your mind to it. Your disability doesn't define the person you are. You are perfect in your own way! Reach for your dreams and don't let anyone stop you!
