My Second Chance At Life

The Accident

Hi, my name is Javier Gonzalez. I had my accident on December 8th, 2012. That's the day I had my second chance at life. I was street racing when a car cut me off and I nicked the car's bumper and lost control at 160 mph. I spun around and wrapped around a pole. The seatbelt broke my neck from C3 all the way to C7. I was in the car for a little over 3 hours, in the ICU for about 3 months, and in rehab for 1 month. I couldn't move anything, I couldn't even speak, it sucked!

Miracles Happen for A Reason

Then I received news while I was in the hospital that my girlfriend at the time was 2 months pregnant, so that was my blessing. Yes, it sucks that I didn't plan on having my first child like this. I'm bound to get back on my feet no matter what it takes. Yes, it gets depressing at times, but you got to keep your head up and a smile on your face. Your smile is your logo and you must wear it proud. Some people always think of death, but that has never crossed my mind. I am happy I'm still here, not a lot of people can say it's a miracle. They got a second chance at life, so I'm going to take it and run with it. I remember being in the hospital not being able to move, not being able to talk, and it sucked so bad. I had tubes everywhere. Sometimes I sit here and I just think about how far I have come and like I said before I'm really happy I'm still here and was able to experience life being born. I have my son and I'm so blessed and grateful even though the situation I'm in is difficult.

I am currently a C4 C5 incomplete. The doctors said I'll never move anything again. It took me 2 months just to move my right hand a lil bit. I've been in and out of the hospital, but u always have to remember there is someone out there fighting twice as hard to get to the position that you're in. It can always be worse! I opened my page to motivate people that are in my situation so I let them see that there's basically nothing that's impossible I'm a quadriplegic father and I take care of my son and I give them advice and let them know we can do things no matter what our situation is.
