Perspective
Hey I'm Alivia! I grew up dancing competitively and have always had a passion for adventures. I used to think I was invincible. However, when I was 16 years old, I was a passenger in a car accident. I broke my neck, which left me paralyzed from the chest down. Perspective. A lot changed on August 9, 2009, but the biggest change occurred in my perspective. The seven years that have passed since the accident have taught me a tremendous amount about the person I am and the person I strive to be. I am 23 years old and I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to sit here in my wheelchair and type this with my wrists. I never thought this is where I would be, but it’s ok. Even though my life completely changed, it did not end. Because of all of this I learned early on quite a bit about compassion, understanding, perseverance, focus, patience and, most importantly, strength. I truly believe I will walk, maybe even dance again some way or another. Until then, I will continue to work hard to reach my goals, embrace life, and be the best person I can be. “I now see the world through a different prism, one whose light I feel compelled to illuminate."
