Born This Way
Hello, I'm jazmin (@ jazzyjaz98). I recently started an Instagram account of my personal experiences that I have been through. I don't post the bad experiences, but mostly my amazing accomplishments! What's wrong with me? Absolutely nothing! I was simply born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy also known as SMA. I didn't walk until the age of 4, and I thought I had a pretty normal childhood. I really didn't notice I was "different" until kids started making fun of the way I walked or told me that I looked weird. My illness progressed over the years, and I was diagnosed with Scoliosis. This made it difficult for me to breathe. I had a spinal fusion at the age of 12, which was good but permanently prevented me from walking. I can still stand, but I need assistance. I have been hospitalized many times. I had pneumonia twice, Iost hair, and dealt with depression because I hated everything that was happening to me.
Coping with Spinal Muscular Atrophy & Scoliosis
I joined pageants back in 2014, which made me feel highly motivated about modeling. I ended up being among the Top Ten finalists. I also won the title of Miss Congeniality. I was accepted into many photo shoots and beauty seminars- it was such a beautiful experience!
I had a scary episode when I came home from school one day where I passed out and woke up in an ambulance. I was hospitalized for 6 days. They released me on the day of my birthday.
Thank goodness my story impacted my school in the past! When I was nominated for a Tempe Youth Courage award, a news reporter found inspiration in my story. The day of the award ceremony was featured on the news.

Hopefully, I will get more inspiration to continue doing what I love, and reach out to those with the same illness as me so they know that they are never bound to overcoming the possibility. You should just trespass those limitations ☺️
