“Feet, what do I need them for If I have wings to fly?.” - Frida Kahlo
My name is Ferny Ruiz and I am a mexican young woman with arthropgyposis multiplex congenita (AMC) and scoliosis, situation that has lead me to be the proud user of a wheelchair my entire life. As you can imagine, the mixture of those medical conditions have not been a stroll in the park; however the lack of physical independency that my dissability has brought to my life gave me the spiritual and emotional freedom that most of us, human beings, are looking for. My motor disability allowed me to discover that our bodies are just the envelope that holds in our souls; making me realize that what really matters is inside every person.
Achievements
Despite having a physical disability I have achieved many of my personal goals; in 2010 I graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a major on psychology and a minor on communication studies, by the time I ended college I was already the founder and president of Fundación Carità A. C., which is a non-profit organization focused of creating an inclusive environment for people with disabilities in Mexico. In 2009 I decided to follow my dream and try to leave a foot print in this world - or maybe I should say a "wheel print" - to remind people that no matter the adversities YOU CAN see the light at the end of the tunnel; that is the reason of why I became a motivational speaker.
My dream is to continue touching people's heart and inspiring others. I believe we all have things that makes us unique and different, but we also have things that connects us with each others. We are ALL warriors in certain way, some of us have a more evident battle to fight - like a disability - than others, but at the end what is important to know is that we are not alone in this battlefield called "world".
